Role of the New Zealand Māori Rugby Board

The role of the New Zealand Māori Board is to:

  • Promote and encourage rugby at all levels amongst Māori people.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the regional Māori Rugby Boards.
  • Establish appropriate arrangements for annual tournaments between Māori rugby teams from each of the regions.
  • Distribute funds to members, participants in Māori rugby and other persons for the benefit and promotion of Māori rugby.
  • Seek funding and sponsorship for all levels of Māori rugby.
  • Advance the education of Māori participants in the game of rugby.
  • Maximise opportunities for amateur Māori rugby players, coaches, and administrators to enable them to participate to the fullest extent of their desire, potential and skill in their pursuit of rugby.
  • Comply as a member of the NZRU with the rules and regulations of the NZRU Delegate to members, committees or individuals such of the powers of the Society as the Board thinks fit and on such terms as the Board may from time to time determine.
