Bay of Plenty is a rugby union with a proud heritage that has contributed richly to the long and distinguished history of the game in New Zealand. The union was the inaugural winner of the NPC in 1976 and held the Ranfurly Shield in 2004.

We seek a Head Coach to lead the ITM Cup team in the national provincial competition.  The role will also lead the High Performance program as Director of Rugby. The successful candidate will:

(a) demonstrate a high level rugby coaching record and/or

(b) in the selection panel’s opinion, have the ability and potential to be an outstanding provincial coach.

(c) demonstrate an understanding and capability to lead a high performance environment.

The successful candidate will have the ability, knowledge and experience to inspire optimum performance and thrive in a high pressure, high profile environment. 

The Head Coach/Director of Rugby will report to the Chief Executive Officer.

You will have the desire to be part of one of New Zealand’s largest unions and contribute to Bay of Plenty Rugby’s rich and proud heritage.

Otago ITM Cup Head Coach & Director of Coaching

Otago has a proud history of playing exciting attacking rugby.  This style of play has been developed over a number of years and is now part of the game at all levels across the region.  If you are a coach passionate about rugby and the ‘Otago style’ then the Otago Rugby Football Union (ORFU) invites your application for the position of Otago Head Coach & Director of Coaching. 

This position is responsible for coaching the Otago team in the ITM Cup Championship and also for leading the development and implementation of the Otago Rugby Football Union’s overall coaching strategy.  This role will directly contribute to the overall promotion and development of the game of rugby throughout the province.

The successful candidate will have either proven first-class or significant Otago club or representative coaching experience.

On and off-field skills required at the highest level include:

  • Leadership;
  • Strategic thinking and planning;
  • Tactical and technical coaching (for the team and individual);
  • People management;
  • Excellent communication skills; and
  • High Performance player and coach development.

This role requires a high level of passion, initiative and commitment and is a rare opportunity to enhance the development and success of rugby in Otago.
