What School Assistance is Available?

Each province has a number of Rugby Administrators in Schools employed by the Provincial Rugby Union to provide rugby administration support to Secondary Schools.

Your local Provincial Rugby Union has other staff dedicated to community rugby.  If you need further information on the types of assistance available just contact your local Provincial Rugby Union, they are there to help.

About Rugby Administrators in Secondary Schools

Rugby Administrators in Schools are employed by the Provincial Rugby Unions, from NZRU funding, with the view to strengthen rugby in Secondary Schools by providing rugby administration assistance.  Their responsiblities include:

  • Team and registration entries
  • Organising gear and equipment
  • Actively encouraging pupils to join a team
  • Sourcing of, and organising training for, coaches
  • Sourcing managers for teams
  • Creating and strengthening links with local clubs
  • Assisting with sponsorship

The initiative was trialled in 2003.  The success of the trial led to the New Zealand Rugby Union investing $1million to support the initiative and employ 296 Rugby Administrators in Schools throughout New Zealand.
