New Zealand Rugby seek first-ever Rangatahi Advisory Group to champion youth

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) are seeking 12 young people aged between 15-20 years old to be a part of the Rangatahi Advisory Group (RAG), a new initiative for youth to share, voice and contribute their value to the game of rugby.

The Rangatahi Advisory Group is a national youth committee endorsed by the NZR Board. It was established to improve community engagement and rugby participation, while providing them with an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the game.

The advisory group will work together and serve for a term of two years voluntarily, gaining experience in governance, leadership, and project management skills.

NZR Secondary Schools Manager Callum McNair said the RAG will enable young people to have more influence on youth rugby as they see it.

“The RAG members will provide their insights and expertise to support NZR in delivering great experiences for our teenagers,” McNair said.

“This group will connect with the All Blacks Performance Labs, an executive coaching programme that was launched recently with an aim to unlock peak potential.

“The connection with the All Blacks Performance Labs will offer the opportunity for our RAG members to understand how high performing teams perform and what it takes to create that.

“It will also offer unique insight into how they can become stronger leaders.”

Successful applicants will:

  • Help NZR to engage and grow participation of teenage players in the community by meeting and discussing teenage needs.
  • Attend meetings every six weeks via Zoom with at least one meeting in person where travel arrangements will be paid for by NZR.
  • Provide NZR with feedback on ideas and issues that are important to young people.
  • Provide advice on teenage competitions, events, policies, plans and performance that affect young people.
  • Raise awareness of the opportunities available to players, coaches, schools and the wider community.

A background in rugby is not essential but interest is important. All interested rangatahi are encouraged to apply.
