Coach

Each season over 13,000 rugby coaches are involved in developing players and helping make our game great.

Become a Coach

Coaching is very rewarding and is a great way to contribute to your community, give back to the game, and to meet others who share your love for rugby.

As a coach, your local Provincial Union and Club will help support you and provide you with development opportunities.

At the beginning of every season you will attend either:

  • A RugbySmart course (if you are coaching players aged 13 or above), or
  • A SmallBlacks Coaching Course (if you are coaching players aged 12 and under)

These coaching courses have been designed by New Zealand Rugby (NZR) to help you develop as a coach and improve the safety of the game.

To find out more about other opportunities for training and education in your area, get in touch with your local Provincial Union!

To start coaching all you need to do is contact your local rugby club, school or Provincial Rugby Union and they will take care of the rest. You can also find your nearest rugby club using Club Finder
