Community rugby set to kick off without restrictions

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) welcomes the Government’s decision to move to Alert Level 1 which now allows community rugby to return without restrictions.

Clubs, schools and community rugby providers are encouraged to continue to implement contact tracing measures and hygiene protocols throughout Alert Level 1. Anyone feeling sick should stay away from all rugby activity.

NZR is still following the three-phased approach to the return of rugby. The community game is in Phase 2: Prepare to Play from 25 May to 19 June and this weekend will see the commencement of pre-season club rugby matches.

Phase 3: Play commences on 19 June, with the first competition games set to kick off on Saturday 20 June.

NZR would also like to acknowledge the significant work from rugby volunteers and staff to get the game ready and put measures in place that keep our communities healthy and safe.
