POVERTY BAY RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION - Independent Board Members

Poverty Bay Rugby is seeking independent board members to help set the strategic direction for all rugby in Gisborne and the Poverty Bay region.

The Union wants to hear from individuals motivated by creating environments that are welcoming and inclusive in the sports sector, and draw on diverse perspectives and positive actions to encourage our community to be passionate, fair and their best. Like all sports codes, rugby faces challenges, we are looking for individuals who will look at those challenges as opportunities.

Although knowledge of and empathy for rugby are beneficial, it is not necessarily a pre-requisite of the position. Understanding a balance sheet and sports governance experience, however, is ideal.

Independent Board Members must not be, or on appointment must immediately cease to be, either an employee of the Poverty Bay Rugby Football Union, or a member of the Council of Clubs.

These are appointed positions, not elected.

All applications should include a CV, confirmation of Independence as define above and an appropriate covering letter. Applications are to be sent to:

Ray Noble, CEO PBRFU

Email: ray@povertybayrugby.co.nz

Applications close 4th June 2025.

AUCKLAND RUGBY CLUB - MEN'S PATHWAY MANAGER

Due to an internal promotion, we are now looking for someone to step into the Men’s Pathway Manager role.  The focus of our pathway programmes is to prepare players for the next stage of their rugby careers (from age group representatives to NPC then ultimately Super Rugby and All Blacks).  The NZRU 6 Pillar Development Model provides a framework from which we deliver a progressive development programme that is currently converts 80% of Academy players to the NPC and FPC.

There is a strong holistic approach throughout the programme, recognising the need to develop the players, both on and off the field.  Nutrition, Mental Skills, and Personal and Professional Development are integrated in with the on-field development, to ensure that when the progression to professional rugby takes place, the players have the knowledge, tools and confidence to perform at that level.

Reporting to the Head of High Performance, you will lead a small team which includes the Talent Identification & Recruitment Manager, Men’s S&C Coach and Resource Coaches (outside of the NPC Campaign) you will also have meaningful and impactful relationships with all players within the various development pathway programmes.

A key focus is player development where you will lead the delivery of the development framework, manage coaching resources to support the programmes and ensure players understand the importance of professional conduct.  Working with the Talent Identification and Recruitment Manager, you will implement the Auckland Rugby talent identification strategy for players through representative age group level to NPC level.

Another focus area is managing the Academy Programme – lead, coordinate and facilitate internal & external resources to provide academy players with best-in-class rugby specific education on the six pillars of development (physical, nutrition, technical, tactical, mental & character/leadership).

Your ability to build and maintain key stakeholder relationships is pivotal to the success of the programmes; liaising with the likes of New Zealand Rugby, Super Franchises (Blues) and Secondary Schools will promote alignment and collaboration that will support the best outcomes for players and the programmes.

Working in a sports organisation requires flexibility and an understanding that weekend and evening work is to be expected.  You are comfortable working outside the traditional Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm gig as sport doesn’t fit that mould!

This role has a high level of autonomy so your planning and organisational skills are second to none.   To be successful in this role you will ideally have:

  • Qualification in either Sport Development, Sport & Recreation, Education or Management
  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role
  • Experience in player development and programme delivery
  • Understanding of the rugby environment across clubs, schools and NPC
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with a diverse stakeholder group
  • People leadership skills

Auckland Rugby is an equal opportunity employer. We know that great minds don’t think alike, and it takes all kinds of minds to make rugby a great sport experience. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, it doesn’t matter if you don’t tick all the boxes.

If you wish to apply for this role, please submit your cover letter and CV to Kaylene kaylene.froggatt@aucklandrugby.co.nz by COB Friday 30th May 2025.
