A strategy for all of rugby in New Zealand

This strategy was developed and adopted by the NZR Board in 2025 to provide direction for all of rugby in New Zealand. It focuses on four key strategic pillars which are interdependent, meaning that to be successful in one we need to be successful in all. The strategy is not time-bound and will instead be adaptive as internal factors and external environment change.

We will continue to enhance the legacy of our Teams in Black through winning pinnacle events and major series. We will play a style that reflects our identity and culture as a rugby nation. This will be achieved through player and coach development pathways into competitions that bring fans and communities together.

The success of our teams and competitions will continue to drive opportunities to engage and connect with fans both domestically and globally, delivering revenue growth while controlling investment and spend, on a path to profitability.
